Ambassador

Mr. Ahamed Lebbe Sabarullah Khan is the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman since 15th September 2022. He was born in Sainthamaruthu in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, received his school education from Kalmunai Zahira College and graduated from the Eastern University of Sri Lanka with BSc. (Biology). Later he obtained his Master’s Degree in International Relations from the Annamalai University in India.

His wide experience in the Sri Lanka Government Service includes teaching GCE Advanced Level classes, research work in the Department of Irrigation and later various diplomatic assignments in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service. In 1991 he was recruited to the Sri Lanka Scientific Service through an open competitive examination and worked on remote sensing and geographical information systems for soil mapping for the land use and policy planning purpose. Later, in 1994 he joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service through a limited competitive examination which was held to absorb young executive officers of other disciplines into the Foreign Service.

After joining the Sri Lanka Foreign Service, he had served at the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka in various Divisions including Consular Affairs, Protocol, Economic Affairs, Political Affairs and Overseas Administration at different times and lately served as the Additional Secretary for Economic Affairs and Overseas Administration. His notable foreign assignments in the Sri Lanka Missions abroad include Charge de Affaires in Amman, Minister Counsellor in Bangkok, Deputy High Commissioner in New Delhi, Deputy Chief of Mission & Charge de Affaires in Riyadh, Consul General in Jeddah, Ambassador & Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Ambassador & Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Charge de Affaires in Abu Dhabi and High Commissioner for Nigeria.

He was a member of Sri Lanka delegations to numerous bilateral and multilateral meetings and negotiations relating to regional organizations and bilateral agreements including United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), Colombo Plan, India-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (ISFTA) etc. He had also served as the Sri Lanka’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UNESCAP during his tenure at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Bangkok. At the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry he chaired various committees relating to administrative matters and served as the Acting Foreign Secretary many a times.

Mr. Khan is married to Naflah and has two children.
