Issuance of Temporary Travel Documents / Non Machine Readable Passports (NMRP)
These are documents issued to Sri Lankans whose passports have been lost, stolen or expired whilst in a foreign country and if he/she intends to come back to Sri Lanka within a short period of time, a person may apply for an NMRP or a Temporary Travel Document.
Please note that the NMRP or Temporary Travel Document is valid only for one way travel to Sri Lanka and applicants cannot use it to obtain a visa to further stay in the country of Residence.
Required Documents
- Duly filled Application – [DownloadForm “K35”] (Fill the application using English Block Letters)
- If the passport is lost, follow the instructions (See here) to report the lost /stolen Passport and obtain required receipts / reports
- Statement made by the applicant regarding the loss of passport [DownloadForm D]
- Original Police Report issued by the local police regarding the lost passport. This Document must be attested from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of passport issuance.
- Photocopy of Previous Sri Lankan Passport (If available)
- Three recent Photographs (Colour Photograph with White Background. Size : 3.5cm x 4.5cm)
- Note: Forehead and both ears should be exposed and the photograph should be obtained without covering the face by hair and without spectacles. It should be taken within the last 03 months
- Original Birth Certificate (Translations are not accepted)
- Original Sri Lankan National Identity Card or driving license
- Original Citizenship Certificate
- Note: If an applicant born outside Sri Lanka, has reached the age of 21 years, he/ she should submit the Citizenship Certificate with the endorsement in the reverse side of the certificate, regarding the applicant’s continuation of Sri Lankan nationality.
- Residential address in Oman and mobile telephone number in Oman requested as per no. 7 and no. 14 respectively in the application form should be mentioned and filled correctly and clearly.
