Certification of Affidavit and Power of Attorney
The Sri Lankan citizens, who are living in Oman or an Accredited country; Yemen could declare the affidavits by themselves at the Embassy, in the presence of an authorized officer under the Consular Functions Act. The applicant comes in person to the Embassy with a valid passport, resident card and original documents that are relevant to the Affidavit.
If the applicant is required to submit a Power of Attorney to legal institutions, the applicant should produce the Power of Attorney obtained from a lawyer in Sri Lanka along with the following documents for signing in the presence of an authorized officer at the Embassy. The applicant should come in person with two Sri Lankan witnesses.
- Power of Attorney prepared by a lawyer
- Applicant’s valid passport and residence visa
- Valid passports and resident visa of the two witnesses
Note:
Relevant official documents should be produced to substantiate the facts given in an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney. In the event of relevant official documents not being produced to substantiate the facts contained in an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney such an Affidavit or a Power of Attorney will not be considered for Certification.
Affidavits produced to substantiate the alterations made in identification documents issued by the Government such as Birth Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Death Certificates, Passports, Driving Licenses, National Identity Cards etc. will be attested only if the alterations have been made in the original documents and certified by the issuing authority.
Attestation of Documents / Declarations such as Affidavit or Power of Attorney signed by a Foreign Citizen are accepted to attest only if such document is certified by an authorized authority (Notary) of the country of his /her residence. Those documents must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of Residence of the applicant, prior to produce to the Embassy for attestation.
